DIY Zen Garden

Creating a space of intention and calm for my children has always been my priority. When we began our homeschool journey, I focused on modeling mindful techniques in our daily practices. Of course, with 4 children our days are not always calm, but I can create small pockets of peace within our days together. My children really love sensory exploration and mindful activities, so whenever I can combine the two…I take the opportunity.

I always wanted a Zen Garden for our home. As a family of 7, those beautiful gardens don't fit into our budget. Then it dawned on me I could create my own, using materials we already have around our home.

For our DIY Zen Garden we used basic items you can find around the home or outdoors (such as sand, stones, shells, bark, colored pebbles, driftwood, and other findings from outdoors. This Zen Garden was so easy to make, and it created a relaxing atmosphere within our classroom space.

Supplies Needed:

Sensory Tray (any tray will do, I linked one for ideas)

White Sand (if you have sand from the beach, even better!)

Stones

Shells

Colored pebbles

Driftwood

Bark

Moss

Sticks

White String

Printing tools

You may use any nature items you can find, adding your own loved elements to your Zen Garden.

Our printing tools are made from sticks (hot glued and wrapped together with string) to make lines in the sand.

This Zen Garden was so easy to make, and it created a relaxing atmosphere within our classroom space.

As always, love and live naturally.
