Winter Calm

Winter always brings a stillness. Even when living in the heart of the city, you can sense a change. No longer do we hang out along the pathways in front of their homes or walk to the neighborhood store, and the loud roaring of the infamous motorbikes are replaced with cars- windows rolled up and heat filtering throughout. The city streets, local hangouts, and tourist spots are becoming more empty as the mark of winter is upon us. We spend days, sometimes weeks in the warm comfort of ours homes.

I have come to appreciate the calm that winter brings. The silence of snow and the quiet whistle of the wind, the bareness of the earth waiting to be covered in blankets soft ice. It moves me to a place of peace...a state of quietude. As winter creeps slowly upon me, I give myself permission to revel in the these moments. To rest and reset, and to intensely savor the simplicity and beauty of this season with those I hold dear. It's taking the hustle of the morning, and moving slowly into the day. Feeling less pressure to compete with the outside world, a making intentions to be present.

Give yourself permission to savor the calm of winter. That may look like staying in bed for longer wrapped in the warmth of thick throws. Nestled in your favorite chair or on the couch reading books aloud to your children. Indulging in a cup of homemade hot chocolate or good cup of Chai, while listening to your favorite jazz album. Or, simply taking time for yourself and doing something your are passionate about. This is the time. The time to embrace the calm and accept the promise of winter.

As always, love and live naturally.
